Pani puri is a beloved Indian street snack famous for its burst of flavors and fun-to-eat style. Crisp, hollow puris are filled to the brim with a spiced mix of potatoes, onions, and chickpeas, then plunged into a chilled, tangy “pani” (flavored water) just before serving. Each bite is meant to be eaten whole, delivering a punch of spicy, sour, and savory all at once. Also known as gol-gappa in some regions, this treat is loved by people of all ages across the Indian subcontinent.

Ingredients:

  • Pani puris

  • Flavored water

  • Potato-peas curry

  • Toppings of your choice

Method

  1. Store-bought puris for pani puri. I purchase from stores that sell groceries of India. I have attached a photo.

  2. Store-bought pani puri instant paste for flavored water. I have attached a photo.

  3. Add 2 cooked mashed potatoes with 1/2 cooked peas to oil that has been seasoned with 1tsp cumin-coriander powder, 1/2 tsp ginger paste, salt and a pinch of turmeric. Stir well to combine all flavors.

  4. For toppings, you can add finely chopped cilantro, finely chopped onions , and/or sev.
